We have six male and seven female finalists for The Ruden Report-Fairfield County Bank Player of the Week votes.
The votes will run until noon on Thursday. The winners will receive our Player of the Week T-shirts.
Here are the male finalists:
Michael Chaves, St. Joseph Baseball. Chaves pitched a four-hitter in the Cadets’ 14-1 Class M quarterfinal win over Northwestern.
Dean DiNanno, Wilton Lacrosse. DiNanno scored six goals in the Warriors’ 14-11 Class L quarterfinal win over New Canaan.
Tyler Donnellan, Greenwich Golf. Donnellan, a freshman, shot a 73 to win the Hap Holohan Tournament.
Justin Forde, McMahon Track. Forde won the long jump, the triple jump and was second in the high jump at the Class LL championships.
Charlie Howard, Staples Lacrosse. Howard scored three goals in the Wreckers’ 8-6 Class L quarterfinal win over Ridgefield.
Hudson Pokorny, Darien Lacrosse. Pokorny scored seven goals, including the 100th of his career, and added four assists in two state tournament wins.
Here are the female finalists:
Hailey Angelucci, Trumbull Track. Angelucci won the javelin at the Class LL championships.
Shelby Dejana, Wilton Track. Dejana won the 100 hurdles at the Class L championships.
Emma Langis, Ridgefield Track. Langis won the 300 hurdles at the Class LL championships.
Mari Noble, Greenwich Track. Noble won the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Class LL championships.
Sophia Sarrazin, Staples Golf. Sarrazin shot a 73 to win medalist honors at the FCIAC championship.
Alanna Smith, Danbury Track. Smith won the 100, 200 and 400 at the Class LL championships.
Tess Stapleton, Ludlowe Track. Stapleton won the 100 hurdles at the Class LL championships.
With all due respect to the other successful female athletes in this list, FRESHMAN Alanna Smith, 3-time Ruden Report nominee in past four weeks is the most deserving of this acknowledgment: CIAC Class LL 100m, 200m, 400m CHAMP!!!
champ…setting her personal bests in two the events! ALL-FCIAC, ALL-STATE, track star phenom…on the radar of all CT high school track coaches, of colleges & universities, TV and print! Forget her familial/genetic athleticism and her 4.0+ gpa, this girl has earned Player of the Week by preparing to win on and off the track! VOTE ALANNA SMITH! And today she faces her toughest races in States. VOTE ALANNA!
With all due respect I am sure each of these girls are equally deserving of this award. Relax and keep it clean.
Every athlete nominated each week is on the list for their outstanding performance! I congratulate you all for your dedication and immense efforts. I am sure each and every one of you has dedicated hours/weeks/months and even years to your training. I am in awe! I know I couldn’t measure up to any of your athletic accomplishments. BRAVO !
