New Canaan had won seven FCIAC titles but none since 2008. St. Joseph had never been to the championship game before.
The teams on Friday offered a reprisal of their game three weeks ago, a 62-21 New Canaan win. This one was much closer: the score was tied at halftime, 14-14, before the Rams pulled away for a 31-20 win.
Nick Cascione, in his first appearance since sustaining a concussion two weeks earlier, was named the game’s most valuable player. Frank Cognetta had a big night on the ground and the defense had a strong second half.
Mufasha Abdul-Basir had a good night running the ball and Shane Miller catching it for the Cadets.
