RIDGEFIELD — Darien has been the premier sports program in the FCIAC and perhaps the state for the last several years. In many respects, with the facilities, support system and now even an in-house program to stream games, it might seem closer to a Division III college than a high school athletic department.

Alex Ostberg of the Darien boys cross country team and Hannah DeBalsi of the Staples girls cross country team are this week’s BlueStreak-Ruden Report Players of the Week.
Ostberg and DeBalsi will each receive T-shirts and plaques from BlueStreak Sports Training.
Ostberg set course and meet records in winning both the FCIAC and Class L championships.
DeBalsi won both the FCIAC and Class LL championships.

Stanford The Next Stop For Westhill’s Howlett
STAMFORD — Claire Howlett, the Westhill senior who has made a meteoric rise in three years from a track novice into one of the nation’s top high school distance runners, announced last week that she will be attending Stanford next year on a scholarship.
Howlett, who finished second at last week’s FCIAC cross country championships, was leaning toward Stanford during her search, and said her decision was sealed after a trip to the school earlier this month.
