Brendan Case, the athletic director at St. Bernard in Uncasville, was hired to take over the same position at Westhill. The announcement came on Thursday morning from Camille Figluizzi, the principal at Westhill.
Case replaces Mike King, who was at Westhill for 17 years, the last 12 as athletic director. He left last month to become the new AD at Trumbull.
“Everything that I’ve heard about him from people who have worked with him, I think he will take Westhill to the next level athletically,” Figluizzi said of Case.
Case is the second new athletic director in the FCIAC hired this week. Doug Marchetti was named to the position at Norwalk High School on Tuesday.
Figluizzi confirmed that Westhill recently offered the position to another current athletic director at a CIAC member school, but that person was forced to pull out for personal reasons. The job was then re-posted.
“We found it difficult to replace Mike,” Figluizzi said.
King earned high marks during his tenure at Westhill, during which time the school’s athletic program saw greater successes and the facilities were revamped, with both new and improved on-campus fields. He is also considered a rising star on the board of the FCIAC.
King’s departure also means that the school is still in search for a new girls basketball coach, a position he held for 15 years.
