Football Friday: Breaking Down St. Joseph-New Canaan

Like two speeding trains on a collision course, Friday night’s much-anticipated game between St. Joseph and New Canaan is finally upon us.

It has been circled on the calendar since September, with the expectation that both teams would be undefeated and a berth in the FCIAC championship game would be all but secured for the winner.

Commentary: Greenwich’s Boys Soccer Title A Well-Earned Coronation

NORWALK — Greenwich boys soccer coach Kurt Putnam was holding court with the media Wednesday night when the trophy celebration commenced at the other side of Norwalk High School’s football field.

As if waiting for the cue, Putnam apologized, abruptly stopping as the announcement was made to come accept the championship trophy.

I’ve got to go get that,” Putnam said, and like that he jogged off.

Bassick’s Lewis Breaks Down St. Joseph-New Canaan

Derrick Lewis has a unique distinction: the Bassick coach is the only one who has faced both New Canaan and St. Joseph this year.

The Lions lost to New Canaan in the second week of the season, 42-20. They dropped a 49-6 decision to St. Joseph two weeks ago.

Lewis is as qualified as anyone to break down Friday’s much anticipated showdown between the FCIAC’s top two teams. Any he is voluble on the subject.
